In the first set, it was close in the early going, then with the score knotted at 4-all, the Broncos went on a 7-2 run to take a 11-6 lead, and grab control of the momentum.  An SCU attack error then sparked a 5-1 USD run of their own, to pull to within one at 12-11.  SCU then managed to maintain a 2-3 point lead, and took a 4-point lead at 21-17, but San Diego refused to be denied.  A Katie Hoekman kill then sparked a 4-1 Torero run to pull back to within one at 22-21, forcing the Broncos into a timeout.  SCU managed to take set point at 24-22, however the Toreros scored the next three points to complete the rally, and take set one 27-25.

In the second set, the Broncos again jumped out to an early advantage at 7-4.  After SCU built up a five-point lead at 11-7, a Ferrari kill then sparked a 6-2 Torero run, which pulled San Diego to within one at 13-12, forcing the Broncos into a timeout.  The two teams then sea sawed back and forth trading point-for-point, until USD knotted up the score at 21-all, on a SCU attack error.  USD then closed out the frame on a 5-1 run to claim a 25-22 win.

In the third set, Santa Clara raced out to a 7-4 lead and managed to maintain that margin for a majority of the frame.  The Broncos never surrendered the lead, and eventually went on to claim a 25-18 win, to avoid the sweep.

In the fourth and final frame, USD raced out to a 6-1 lead, to grab all the momentum.  USD then continued to dominate and eventually took a 17-6 lead, and never looked back, as they cruised their way to a 25-12 win.

The Toreros will return to action on Saturday, as they travel to San Francisco to take on the University of San Francisco in a 1 p.m. WCC match.
