SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's volleyball team moved up one spot to No. 18 in the latest AVCA top-25 polls after posing a 2-0 record this past week.
USD picked up a 3-1 win over Portland and a 3-0 sweep over Gonzaga, both on the road. In Thursday's win over the Pilots, Katie Hoekman paced the Torero offense, as she recorded 16 kills on 23 swings, while only committing three errors to hit for a .565 clip. Alaysia Brown was the second USD player in double digit kills as she recorded 15, while Sandra Lozic chipped in with 10 kills. Rachel Alvey led the team with 32 assists, while C'era Oliveira posted a double-double with 10 assists and 11 digs. As a team, USD hit .257.
In Saturday's sweep over the Zags, Amber Tatsch recorded her match-best 14 kills on 24 swings, while only committing three errors to hit for a .458 clip. Lozic had a near double-double as she recorded nine kills and had 17 digs, while Jianna Bonomi led the team with 22 assists, and she recorded eight digs in helping steer the USD offense to a .348 attack percentage. C'era Oliveira had a great day defensively for the Toreros, as she recorded 15 digs.
USD will return to the court on Wednesday, as they travel up Interstate 8 to take on cross-town rival San Diego State at 7 p.m., before returning home on Saturday for the final regular-season match of the season. USD will be battling BYU for the West Coast Conference championship at 1 p.m.
