Women’s Complete Results

BETHLEHEM, Penn. – The USD men’s and women’s cross-country teams competed in the Paul Short Invite Saturday morning at Lehigh University. Racing in a very large field with numerous strong programs, the women’s team proved they belong with a 21st place team finish (out of 45 schools) in the 6k, led by Sam Mattice’s time of 21:09. The men’s team struggled and came in 38th place.

"I felt good overall with the team," Head Coach Will Guarino said. "This was our third time racing here and the team's times were once again faster than our last."

Mattice finished in 76th place (out of 405) and was helped by personal best finishes from senior Lindsay Benster (110th; 21:30), freshman Cassidy Kuhn (117th; 21:33), and Ashley Mitchell (207thl 22:17). Senior Andrea Hughes was the fourth Torero finisher with a time of 22:02, behind her was Julie Giannini (22:13). Natalie North-Cole finished in 251st with a time of 22:40.

Liam Burke paced the men’s team. He came in 183rd place (out or 336) with a time of 25:34. Max Pedrotti finished in 25:55 and was followed by freshman Patrick Bruce, who ran had a personal best time of 26:01. Matthew Smith finished in 26:05. Behind him two more Toreros posted career best times; sophomore Mitch Manis finished the 8k in 26:19, with TJ Hodges crossing the finish line in 26:39. Senior Matthew Beasley clocked in at 26:51.

"We still have some more areas to further improve," Guarino said. "Both the men's and women's team were placed in the fastest heats. On the women's side we had many victories over well-respected programs, but the hunger of both teams is to continue growing as we are now in racing season."

The Toreros will compete at the Bronco Invite on October 15, a traditionally fast course that saw school records fall last year.
