SUNNYVALE, Calif. - This past Saturday, the Torero Cross Country Team competed in the Santa Clara Invitational at Baylands Park featuring some great Division I competition, which included WCC teams and other west coast teams. The Men's 8k Race was highlighted by Sophomore Chris Flaherty who smashed his personal best with a 25:06 followed by Willie Schefer coming in at 25:36, and Erik Anderson with a time of 25:51 respectively.

"Chris had a phenomenal race where he raced determined and focused which led him to the ultimate prize a University of San Diego school record in the 8k race," said Head Coach Will Guarino.

"I felt strong and prepared, Coach has done a great job preparing us for these kind of races and I am proud of where I am right now," said Chris Flaherty.

On the Women's side, the team was lead by Sophomore Kristy Koenes who also smashed her personal best with a time of 17:37, also a USD school record.

"Records were broken today and I couldn't be prouder of the work each individual put in today's races," said Coach Lena Nilsson.

Following Koenes were finishes by Freshmen Gillian Gorelik with a time of 17:58, a freshmen school record and Sophomore Emerald Raney who ran 18:22 respectively.
