Toreros compete well at NCAA West Regional
Nov. 16, 2010
SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - Chris Flaherty turned in the 2nd fastest 10km time in USD history to place 82nd at the NCAA Western Regional meet held in Springfield Oregon. While Kristy Koenes also set a sophomore record with a time of 21:46, and was seconds away from eclipsing Tiffany Marley's 6km record.
"Both Kristy and Chris have had an excellent season and have consistently either challenged or broken the school record books for each course that they have raced in," said head coach Will Guarino. "We are also pleased that both the Men's and Women's teams have set a team record in the 10km and also in the 6km as well."
It was a fantastic way to complete the season for the Toreros. The Men finished 24th while the Women finished 25th. The Women finished ahead of Fresno State, UNLV, SDSU, St. Mary's, Hawaii, and Cal State Bakersfield. The Women were in a tight pack that only separated the 18th through 25th with a team time of 30 seconds.
Coach Lena Nilsson was extremely pleased to see all seven women race so well early on and battle for every inch of territory that ultimately resulted in the best 6km team time finish in USD Cross Country history.
